A shining star that who’s time was too short. I know accidents happen. But something about that track still bothers me today. Adam and the Kenny Irwin jr. both lost their lives in practice accidents at the flat 1 mile oval.
Some blamed stuck throttles. Some blamed the flat track and single groove. Get up off the bottom and you are going to turn the car around and slam the wall hard. to their credit, the Bahre family expressed willingness to do anything at all that NASCAR might think would improve the safety of the track. Sadly, NASCAR drug their feet with indecision and fear of lawsuits. It took the further loss of Tony Roper in a CTS race at Texas, and finally the loss of Dale Earnhardt for NASCAR to explore the SAFER BARRIER. We now know that the SAFER BARRIERS can and do save lives and reduce serious injuries from impacts of race cars into the walls.
To Kyle, Patti and the whole Petty family it is a loss that will never heal. their gift to us in Adam’s memory is the VICTORY JUNCTION GANG CAMP. Instead of buying a t-shirt, send the money to VJGC in Adam’s memory.
