NASCAR:Richmond, Worth the Wait!

Fans had to wait until Sunday morning to get clear weather and another great Richmond race. Looks like most of the fans were able to stay around for the race. The grandstands had very few gaps evident on the ESPN coverage.

Jimmie Johnson and the #48 team served notice to the other contenders that the 2 time and defending cup champion is ready to ‘Rock and Roll’ for the Chase.

One of the highlights of the day occured when Dale Earnhardt, jr. made contact with the #18 of Kyle Bush. The contact was enough to send the #18 spinning to the wall. The crowd loved it. Most will remember that Kyle hit Dale jr with only 2 laps to go last spring while Junior was leading.

Dale jr took the blame for the contact.

“I got in too hard into (Turn) 1 and locked the left-front up and pushed in to him and wrecked him,” he said. “It was an accident. Those things seem to happen. Not on purpose, as much as I would like to take credit for it.”

Bush was able to get a lucky dog pass to get back on the lead lap. From there he worked his way back to salvage a 15th place finish.

We got tore up a little bit there, but nothing we could help with that,” said Busch, whose spin was met by a thunderous cheer from the fans on hand. “We had to continue on and soldier on.”

David Reutimann lead the most laps, 104 on his way to a 9th place finish. The #44 UPS Toyota was solid all day.

“It definitely bums me out a little that we didn’t do a little better there at the end,” said Reutimann, who earned consecutive top-10 finishes for the first time in his career. “We just ended up being too tight there towards the end.

“It was awesome to lead - I need to that more often.”

Later, 9 cup drivers will buckle up to join the cup light field in the evening part of the NA$CAR doubleheader caused by heavy rains from hurricane Hanna.
