It was a perfect day for Jack Roush. It was a perfect weekend for Carl Edwards. Cousin Carl swept the cup light and cup races at MIS. Jack Roush got to see all 5 of his teams finish in the top 10.
There was this pesky Toyota in 2nd place. Yes, the #18 JGR entry, this week in green, was the first loser.
“Kyle’s good on restarts. That’s just a fact,” said Edwards, who claimed his fifth win of the season, 12th of his career and second at Michigan. He remains second in points, 222 behind Busch.
“Kyle is just so strong - every time I win and he finishes second, that’s really a 20-point spread for us (due to bonus points),” Edwards said. “So, that’s what we just have to keep doing, is go out here and try to win the next three events and go into the Chase on even ground.”
Kyle acknowledged the threat that Carl Edwards represents.
“He is always strong. He’s been the guy that we’ve got to race on these mile-and-a-half (and) two-mile race tracks,” Busch said of Edwards. “He’s been decent at other race tracks, too, but not as stout as he is at these, and there are a lot of these in the Chase.
“We’ve got some work cut out for us.”
It was good to see the late cautions that took away the usual fuel mileage run. Racers have to race and the last 30 laps had some by gawd racin’. Something rarely seen at MIS anymore. In just two weeks the cup series will be at the sister track in California. Even the grandstands look the same. The difference is that the event in Fontana will run an additional 100 miles.
Meanwhile, tighten your belts for this weeks rumble at Bristol. Racing at Bristol is fast and things happen in a hurry. They say it is the hardest ticket to get in the whole NA$CAR schedule. Racing the way it should be. Under the lights, rubbin’ fenders. This one is worth the time to watch.
