It’s time to move on, I think. Grouchy would want us to carry on. Besides, his favorite driver retired earlier this season. He adopted Dale Jarrett as his favorite after the death of Alan Kulwicki. Jarrett was then driving for Joe Gibbs in the #18 Interstate Batteries Pontiac. When Jarrett moved to Robert Yates Racing, my friend became ‘Grouchy88fan’. Patterned after my tag of ‘Grumpy3fan’.
When Jarrett made the move to Michael Waltrip Racing and Toyota, well, that was too much for Sandy. He dropped ‘88fan’ and just became ‘Grouchy’. A little joke between us. His other more known moniker was Mr55Chev. That was his e-mail addy and thats what he was best known as.
In your travels, if you see a 1955 Chevy Nomad, be sure to thank the owner. He is preserving one of perhaps less than 5,000 still in existance. The Nomad series ran from ‘55 to ‘59. Only the ‘55-’57 were of the original concept car introduced at the Waldorf Hotel in 1953. The front clip was pure ‘53 Corvette. It became known as the ‘Waldorf Wagon’ on the show car circuit in 1954. It then was introduced as Nomad with the amazing 1955 Chevrolet line up. The ‘55 Nomad shared front sheet metal with the top of the line ’55 Bel Air. It was an instant hit. The ‘58 and ‘59 Nomads were just a trim level in the regular line up. So much for your ‘55 Chevy lesson for the day.
While Grumpy wraps up a few details with the Pierce family, Angler will take the wheel. I will be back soon.
Never let someone wonder how much you care.
