WRC: Loeb Not Playing Blame Game After Jordan Crash

Loeb and Rautenbach reflect on the crash - Image 1Sebastien Loeb has crashed out of the lead of the Jordan Rally in the most bizarre circumstances. Loeb was involved in a head-on accident with fellow Citroen C4 WRC driver Conrad Rautenbach on a road section close to SS11. Nobody was injured in the accident, which happened on a narrow, blind bend as Rautenbach was approaching the stage and Loeb was leaving it.

“It’s difficult to explain, and very stupid,” said Loeb. “The start and the end of SS11 are very close together, so after I finished the stage I was driving away from it and Rautenbach was heading to the start on the same piece of road. It was a hidden corner; he was a bit late I think, so he had to go a bit fast. I was not very concentrated on the road section because I had just come out of the stage. When we saw each other it was too late and the two C4s are broken. It’s difficult to say whose fault it was - maybe both of us. He was pushing a bit harder at the place, but what can you do? It’s not a question of who is to blame; the fact is we’ve lost the lead of the rally and a lot of points maybe.” Full Story

Business as usual for LoebInterestingly enough … I already know without question that the following onboard Loeb video from Rally Jordan sounds exactly like my own onboard audio will (if I dare to record one) when I drive Mom to Mayo Clinic/Florida from Michigan next week. Especially if my Pro Ears Ultra Muffs - click to enlargespeed surpasses even 70mph on the freakin’ freeway, because the sheer volume of her ‘navigation instruction’ always and inexorably increases in direct proportion to my speedometer needle’s advance ’round the dial. So, on this rather hurried trip, same said volume will no doubt rise to a decibel level against which even the ‘Ultra-33 Passive Muffs (NRR33), offering noise protection up to 118dbs’ won’t provide nearly enough sanctuary for my tender, virgin ears … oh, sigh, how woe soon will be me, my friends …

That vid was pretty cool, though, huh? All except for that last part we haven’t yet located so that we may post it here for you — you know the part … the one wherein Daniel Elena yelled (or, at least I hope he did, even if in French), “HOLY CREPES, LOEB!! RAUTENBACH — DEAD AHEAD!!!” grin
