The world knows that Dale Earnhardt jr. will not be in the Chase. Looking at the numbers, he didn’t belong. Is it his fault? That question is not as easy to answer. There are those who think the ‘black widow’ may have ordained that the Most Popular Driver would miss the cut. Please, Teresa has more at stake than to go there. While it is pretty certain that BUDWEISER will move on, TEI had a good chance to retain the lucrative sponsor. The 8 team has no wins thus far in the season. The only team in the Chase that has a goose egg is the 07 RCR team driven by Clint Boyer. It was heartbreaking to see another engine shelled in the final laps at Richmond. Earnhardt’s fate in the Chase was sealed before that point. DAYTONA 500 winner, Kevin Harvick deserves to be in the the final run. Kurt Bush with 2 wins and a poor sportmanship award for his pitroad antics with Smoke, still has the higher level of performance.
The Junior Nation should get over it. Don’t send hate mail to DEI. Don’t throw beer cans at the 8 car at Daytona when it hits the track driven by Mark Martin and sponsored by Army.
Handicapping the Chasers, you have to acknowledge that Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon should be considered the odds on favorites. I like Smoke. the HOME DEPOT team has always been tough in the fall. Last year, after failing to make the Chase, the 20 team managed 3 wins during the final 10 races to upstage the format. Grumpy likes that kind of grit.
finally, I hate to start the Chase at a lame track like New Hampshire. Were I to run things, I would flip the dates between Richmond and NHIS. I just hate that track, always have. Richmond showed us another great race. It was Chase worthy. Another lame part of the chase schedule has all 3 of SMI’s sister tracks in the run. to me, Texas, Atlanta and Charlotte all look the same and race the same. Bruton Smith’s people take great pains to insist that they are different. BULL!
