NASCAR: Ryan Pemberton leaves DEI

martin.jpgCrew chief, Ryan Pemberton resigned his position at DEI effective immediately. Pemberton, who was scheduled to be the head wrench for the 8 team apparently is seeking another opportunity. The 8 team, sponsored by ARMY was to be made up from the crew of the former 01 team acquired by DEI from Bobby Ginn. Mark Martin is scheduled to continue his role as a part time driver and mentor for rookie, Aric Amirola.

According to the AP report, Doug Richert will assume the position at DEI this week. Richert had been working with Team RED BULL driver, Brian Vickers. Doug Richert may be best known for his role as crew chief for DALE EARNHARDT when he won the WINSTON CUP CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1980. Richert was a tender 20 year old at the time.

Mark Martin may not like this development as he is very fond of Pemberton and felt they made a good combination. Ryan’s older brother, Robin worked with Mark for a number of years at Rousch before joining NASCAR as an official.

**Update: JAYSKI is posting that Pemberton may be headed for the 77 Penske Dodge and Sam Hornish jr.

***Update again! JAYSKI now reporting that Ryan Pemberton will likely go to Michael Waltrip Racing as the crew chief for David Reutimann. So, take your pick and we shall see who gets to make a home for Ryan.
