IRL: Robin Miller Ain’t Got Milka … or X-Box, Apparently … Yet

[5/26/08 Update: Due to recent/renewed interest in this post from 3/29/07, I looked it back up myself, only to find not only pics missing, but also -- a few now-unworkable links! Imagine that! I've done my best to at least give you a couple of new ones -- however -- good luck finding Miller's previous and rather scathing article about Milka Duno. It's now buried deep in SPEED's 'archives' ... ]

Ok … so we’re about to get the fact that Robin Miller doesn’t give Milka Duno much purchase in IRL … lol … oh, and there are myriad ways I could go with that, but I’m trying so very hard to be good for B’s sake …

I’ve held off on posting about Milka Duno’s entrance into IRL because, until now, I didn’t know enough, nor want to speculate enough, quite frankly, about whether or not she could compete — and tonight, I’m still clueless. The impetus to post about it, then, grin … comes with one of Robin Miller’s classic blasts, and wanting to either argue with him or hug him because he has the balls to say what so few others do. I haven’t yet decided which I’d wanna’ do, in this case. (But I’m sure you’ll be the first to know once I’ve made a final decision, as once I’ve adopted a perspective, it’s never easily changed. Sue me — I’m stubborn.)

I’ll first give you what Miller wrote, and then … more …

And the idea of an oil company (CITGO) owned and operated by anti-American Hugo Chavez sponsoring her car isn’t exactly something to shout about either. [Nope -- he's certainly a mother-lovin' anti-American sonuvabitch ... but that doesn't mean that Milka wants to pack a bunch of C-4 inside her wing at Indy, either, sigh ...]

She’s billed as the first woman to win a major sports car race and her credits include victories in Petite LeMans and Grand Am. Those aren’t false claims because she was, indeed, on the winning team at Miami, Road Atlanta and Mt. Tremblant. The fine print is that she didn’t drive very many laps in any of them. Just like last Saturday’s fourth place at Miami-Homestead in Grand Am, she logged 14 laps and teammate Patrick Carpentier did the other 77.

Image:Milka Duno.jpgThe perception is that Ms Milka is an accomplished racer. The reality is that she’s not very good and not very well regarded by her sports car brethren. “She has trouble running side-by-side in these cars and I shudder to think what she’ll be like with open wheels,” said one veteran sports car racer. “She’s a very nice person but she’s got no business in an Indy car at 200 mph.”Miller’s Blast [A former link from 3/07, which, as of 5/26/08, you may have to do some digging to find ... wonder WHY ... ahem ...]

And then there’s Diecast Dude’s perspective, which … comes with an entirely different slant and pic, of course. [We're just racin' thru the news here, lol.] Milka Duna is gorgeous, no lie. So, there’s that for male race fans. But, if you’ve never read Diecast Dude before, make the jump, for God’s sake — doesn’t matter the subject matter, as that dude can write. He also knows his facts:

In case the name doesn’t register, a brief bio: Ms. Duno hails from Venezuela. After earning four — count ‘em, four — Masters degrees in subjects such as naval architecture and marine biology after being trained for her ‘day job’ as a naval engineer, she decided to give auto racing a try. For the past few years she has been honing her craft in various road course leagues such as the Rolex Sports Car Series in which she has more than acquitted herself, having notched victories and podium finishes.

The Diecast Dude’s (Mostly) NASCAR Blah Blah Blog

Ok, so we’re establishing more than a few things tonight. One is that Robin Miller can’t stand her; another is that Diecast Dude can stand her, and yet another assorted few are … she’s very pretty, she’s incredibly educated, she loves speed, and she now works for an anti-American sonuvabitch …

But, can she race?

At the end of the day, racin’ is what counts in … well … excuse me, but … racin’. So, with a bellow and another Bushmills — screw Chavez! Oh, crap — check those security monitors — where’s my Rainbow Six disc — was that a power failure?? B!!!!!!!!!!! Lock and load!!!

lol

screw chavez ? hey fuck you asshole. he does a lot for the people of Venezuela, as opposed to your president who is a fucking war criminal. why not stick to the subject of racing or women or whatever rather than make stupid, ignorant comments ?

  2. Hello, and welcome to anglerred, no matter your opinions, as you are welcome here.

You’re right, Joe — I should stick to racin’ here; thus, I apologize that you were offended by last year’s post (and glad you haven’t read later ones regarding some of the same issues, if you haven’t as yet, as they might have upset you even more.)

I’ll attempt to ignore, from now on, the fact that Mr. Chavez literally “dared” the U.S. to put “his” entire country on our “terrorist watch list”, truly meaning that he and others in S.A. (much less across the world) may want to do MY innocent 13-year-old son harm by using “terror” as a weapon.

First, God save anyone from such a day if I still stand afterwards, as I will come for them personally.

But, other than my very personal feelings:

I don’t like this any more than I would like an Iranian or Chinese or South American child harmed, much less frightened in his or her own homeland for just “when the next 9/11 will hit … and where … how … why do they hate us THAT much, when we’re trying to help them?”

That’s how many of our children see (and have experienced) it, because 9/11 happened at a very crucial time in their development, and “terrorist”, to them, is synonymous with that tragic day, when so very many innocents from all over the world were killed in an attempt to “bring down the U.S.” It didn’t bring us down; it actually pulled us further together … as we are a nation of ALL colors, religions, political views, etc.

Perhaps children in other countries who do not welcome or like the U.S. think, “why are they HERE … what will they DO to US next?”

This is NO more fair for them to have to feel, Joe.

“Terrorism” itself, is not “fair” …. then again, neither is war of any kind, which is why I’d like ALL of us to avoid it, though that’s hardly likely in the human race, as it has been since the beginning when one tribe or another felt threatened or merely coveted another tribe’s lands or possessions — you know the deal. It’s “the way we are”, as we’re not yet that “enlightened” as to have found a way to stop that tendency … and that’s a damned shame for all of us.

Still, perhaps some of this is not how you and I each see the world and its “leaders/events”, but this IS a racin’ site; you are right in that respect.

I’ve said more than my piece about this man (and many other political “personages” outside of South America) now … likewise — you’ve thus said yours here, and I’ve allowed your comment through because, while it wasn’t “complimentary”, grin, it was YOUR truth, and that’s important to me.

I respectfully disagree, but will not speak about the U.S.’s sitting President unless there is an active impeachment in progress and only then, IF I am supportive of it. It’s simply how I was raised, though I may certainly clean his/her clock (verbally) the moment he/she steps down and/or is replaced — as, once again, he/she will merely be a citizen just like me.

President Bush will be out of office soon, and then I’m sure there will be yet another “imperialist” for those who would, to hate, anyway. After all … a shift in leadership here will not solve the problem of much of the world despising the U.S. for many and varied reasons — some valid, some not. Though, here in the U.S., there are citizens (formerly) from every country across the globe who play absolutely NO part in these events which cause such hatred except by our collective rights to “vote” and “speak out” … and yet we ALL equally suffer the very same stereotyping and biases and American-hatred as those in “charge” here do — temporarily, at least, and whether or not we agree with all that is being done in “our names”.

We are certainly not a perfect country, Joe … no country is. But, as a people? We are each as different as each grain of sand, each blade of grass … no matter where we live, nor what “political” views we might hold dear. We are, simply, people … just like you and your family and friends are, where you live.

I do apologize that your experience at anglerred was negative, as that post from last year (as well as more than a few since) is entirely my responsibility, and surely would offend someone who supports Chavez & Co.

How about an apology, then, which I believe I’ve just offered you, and an agreement to disagree on this issue — peacefully — and then, a return to RACIN’ commentary inasmuch as I can keep my opinions to myself when fired up about something, grin? That would be my best suggestion, at this point.

SO! I’ll see what I can do about reigning in those nasty one-liners or even longer rants, etc., whether it’s about your country’s leader or many in my own government (even in my village government, as I can’t stand a few of them who constantly want to tell me how often to mow my lawn, grin) … but, hmmmm … Irish blood & temper over here, mixed with Brit lineage and U.S. freedom of speech (and more) — probably not the best combo for becoming a diplomat, huh? Glad I’m merely a lowly writer, then, lol …

Seriously — if you were here, I would offer you my hand, Joe. I don’t know if in friendship or not, but I do know — not in war of any kind, especially that of terror or intimidation. We are not “all” products of our country’s leaders at any given time … we are merely people, trying to live well and enjoy what and who we love.

I’ll try to keep this in mind down the road, especially in terms of anglerred … in the meantime, be well, and thank you for your honest opinion.

    Best,
    angler
