F1: Mosley Under Fire For Hamilton Comments, But Not Retiring … Yet.

Max MosleyMax Mosley’s habit of criticising the sport’s heroes has led to the inevitable backlash with The Daily Mirror today headlining an anti-Mosley article “Mad Max” and talking of his “poisonous attack” on Sir Jackie Stewart. The Daily Express has also gone on the attack with “Mosley in mad rant at ‘hero’ Hamilton”. Full Post

‘Mad Rant’?? grin Goes something like this?

Max Mosley believes that Lewis Hamilton isn’t as important nor vital to the success of F1 as everyone in the media seems to be making out.

Hamilton-Mania is sweeping the world (or so it seems), and people are saying that he is the best thing since sliced bread, and he IS F1.

“He has certainly helped enormously in the UK. He’s also got a lot of interest worldwide because he’s come manifestly not from a rich background. He’s just made it. [But] there is always somebody new. If it wasn’t him, it would be either [Nico] Rosberg or [Robert] Kubica or one of the other new stars, a [Sebastian] Vettel, would suddenly be the big one.”

“So I think there is a tendency to exaggerate the importance of Lewis Hamilton.” Full Post

Oh, yeah, that’s a “rant” alright, lol … I mean, heaven forbid the man refrains from drooling over the twit. Regardless, it doesn’t appear that a vicious media will impact Mosely’s world much; he will retire on his own terms:

Max Mosley has said that he is not considering retiring just yet, but, when the election for the head of the FIA comes around again in 2009 he may well give up then. Mosley has been head of the FIA since 1993, and considered retiring in 2004, but got re-elected in 2005.

The 67 year-old is not the most popular member of the paddock, and often sparks controversy in his comments.

“I shouldn’t speculate on at the moment,” he told the BBC, when asked if he is contemplating retirement. “In 2004, I did actually say I had enough, and various people insisted on me staying a little bit longer.”

“I think the day that you start to think, ‘this can’t operate without me’, that’s the moment you’ve got to stop. And also you shouldn’t go on too long. When I started, I was old enough to be the father of some of the drivers. Now, there are drivers that could be my grandchildren, and that starts to be on the limit.”

“But as to what happens in 2009, I’ll decide in a year’s time.” Full Post
