I swear — this guy is hilarious.
You never know whether Mosely’s shooting himself in the foot, or merely aiming for someone else’s; but, without a doubt, there’s always shot spewin’ everywhere when he comments on … just about anything, grin …
This is his latest shot … “foot” … about Hamilton:
“Lewis will get plenty of goes at the title,” Mosley said. “Unless something goes dramatically wrong, he’ll win several world championships. If he races for as long as Michael Schumacher did, then he may very well beat his record.”
Hamilton is preparing for his second F1 season after narrowly missing out on the title in a very heated and political 2007 campaign.
“My advice to him would be to put the money in the [very Swiss and untouchable, lol] bank and don’t worry about the politics,” Mosley added. “As long as he keeps driving quickly he’ll be ok.” [Ya' think? Wow -- I never would've thought of that.] Full Story
Yet, this was one of Mosely’s previous shots … “foot” … also about Hamilton:
“He has certainly helped enormously in the UK. He’s also got a lot of interest worldwide because he’s come manifestly not from a rich background. He’s just made it. [But] there is always somebody new. If it wasn’t him, it would be either [Nico] Rosberg or [Robert] Kubica or one of the other new stars, a [Sebastian] Vettel, would suddenly be the big one.”
“So I think there is a tendency to exaggerate the importance of Lewis Hamilton.” Full Story [Of course, this was around the absolute end of October, 2007 -- things happen so fast in F1, especially when there are FIA goblins in every doorway, grin ...]
There’s been talk of Mosely’s retirement (for a long while), and there’s been talk of Mosely needing a serious PR agent (aka, roundmaster, blank-stocker … anyone who can stop the actual F1-wounding pellets from spewin’ every which way), and, sigh … there’s been talk of Mosely being a “bit of a wimp” in regard to Ron Dennis in the McLaren cloak & debacle (insert “foot” again) …
… yet, in the end … what/who “is” Max Mosely, really?
I think that he’s a man with a gift for the obvious. I also believe that he never takes up a verbal gun with the intention of shooting anyone, including himself — in the foot or otherwise.
I think he’s as honest as he knows how to be — which isn’t saying much, granted, as you don’t get to be where he is in F1 without knowing exactly what the hell you’re doing, what you’re saying, and why.
So, we’re all fools for underestimating the man.
I believe he’s basically volunteered for the role of class idiot, because that’s better for the sport than the alternative: taking a hard-ass look at what and who are actually crooked as hell within it.
But that’s just my opinion.
OW!!!! That’s my FOOT! Damn it … who loaded real duck-shot into this thing while I wasn’t looking???
