Ray Evernham recently admitted that his personal relationship with Erin Crocker has made it difficult to obtain sponsors for her racing efforts. Do tell? Come on Ray, you are smarter than that. Remember the wisdom of the ages; “Thou shalt not dip thy pen in company ink.” Mind you, I do not care if Ray and Erin find a little romance between them. We all need and want that special someone in our lives.
Crocker has run ARCA, NCTS and Busch Series cars for EMS with mixed results. Now, Ray finds that it may be wise to send her to another team who can market her to sponsors objectively. Ya think?
I remember when Jeremy Mayfield made statements alluding to the distractions at EMS at Chicago just last year. Evernham was with Crocker at a NCTS race in Kentucky at the time. Grumpy’s reaction at the time was, Mayfield just shot himself in the foot. Well, Ray and Jeremy made nice at a press conference where Mayfield apologized for his remarks and said all was well for the 19 team. Evernham kicked him to the curb within weeks.
Grumpy is one who thinks Erin Crocker can make it in the upper levels of racing. It is a shame that her career path is in the wall because of this. We hope that each has learned their lessons on mixing business and personal lives. Well, if they have, someone else will step up to take their place in the drama Grumpy likes to call……..

Grumpy very well written but I think also Ray moved Erin up too fast She should have stayed in ARCA I believe she needed more time driving there.

As for Erin Crocker in ARCA. I agree that she has not been able to run a full season in any series since joining EMS. Looks like a need for stable sponsorship is the key. It may be that Ray could only get her small packages in key markets rather than a sponsor that would pony up for a season.
Wonder if she would take a World of Outlaws deal for a season? I saw her run in sprints before she hooked up with EMS. she can wheel a big sprinter.
