DEI/GINN deal set

403-markmartin_highlight_large_prod_affiliate_63.jpg Another odd twist to the tale upfolds this week. A number of sources are reporting that DEI and GINN Racing have struck a deal. The 01 ARMY car with Mark Martin at the wheel is now the 4th DEI team. Now, here is where it gets a little complicated. The team owner points from the 14 car, (formerly driven by Sterling Marlin) will be moved to the 15 car at DEI. Thus assuring that Paul Menard will be in the race at INDY.  We can see just how important it is to stay in the top 35. Now, it is reported that the 78 FURNITURE ROW team will make a deal for the points from the 13 car, thus giving Kenny Wallace a lock into the field.  In the mean time 2 veteran drivers, Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek could well be on the outside looking in as Other entries get the benefit of their hard work.

How is this fair? Does all this make for a better show on Sunday? Can you see how all this relates to my post about the qualifying process? I guess it is just too bad Michael Waltrip didn’t think of it first.

Other parts of the deal; What about Regan Smith, who was to take the wheel of the 14 for the rest of the season? Developement driver, Aric Amirola has to wonder who his boss is and what is he driving. As of last week he worked for Joe Gibbs Racing as a development driver. Released from his contract from Gibbs, he signed on to drive the 01 when Martin takes a break.  does he have a deal with Ginn or DEI?

Grumpy thinks what we have here is a sports entertainment business.
