BAJA: Riviera Racing Wins 2007 Baja 1000

Veteran SCORE desert racer Mark Post of Las Vegas realized his life’s dream by winning the 2007 Baja 1000.

“This was the big one for me and Riviera Racing,” said Post at the finish line in Cabo San Lucas. “We planned carefully for this one, as we knew it was going to be the toughest and longest 1000 we’d ever run. My co-drivers Carl Renezeder and Rob MacCachren are both short course specialists so each could push extremely hard on the sections they drove. It was a good strategy that allowed us to stay up front against one of the best fields we’ve seen all year.”

Post’s Riviera Racing team started third, (competitors start at 30 second intervals) and faced extremely tough competition in the early going from last year’s race winner, NASCAR’s Robby Gordon, in his Chevy CK 1500 … Gordon’s team erred in not mounting lights at the first check point forcing Gordon to race with a borrowed handheld spotlight. “We really gave that one away” he said later.  Full Story
