IndyCar Series’ first female race-winner, Danica Patrick, to live out her F1 dream after Honda reveals a test will take place.
Honda has confirmed that Danica Patrick will get a test in one of its Formula One cars later this year, fueling speculation that the American is also to be given a race chance in the top flight in the not-too-distant future.
Wisconsin-born Patrick currently sits sixth in the IndyCar Series point standings following her historic breakthrough victory at Motegi back in April, the first success by a female driver in the premier open-wheeled championship across the Pond.
The 26-year old Andretti Green Racing ace has hinted in interviews at her long-held desire to have an outing in an F1 car … jump to full story, here.
Side-notes:
Hasn’t it been rumored recently that NASCAR Cup’s Kyle Busch will be testing in F1 “soon”, as well? If true … one can only imagine how his “personality” alone would mix on that grid … then again, Grump would be ecstatic to see him out of Cup, so for his sake alone, perhaps we’d like that rumor to be true, grin.
Interestingly enough, however … in terms of attempting to spike F1 ratings as Indy comes back to the fore in international open-wheel, and F1 fans (at least on this side of that pond referenced) are tiring of FIA’s constant “scandals” and waffles, etc. — adding two notably feisty Americans to F1’s roster wouldn’t hurt its ebbing appeal and/or FIA’s lost credibility one bit. (Might even slow down those “split” talks for a time, hm?)
If it’s high-drama and sex-appeal F1’s considering as a way to increase ratings and merchandising, etc., anyway … hmmmmm … I’m thinkin’ that they’re headed in the right direction whether it’s merely Patrick they’re looking at, or, in terms of high-drama both on and off the track — certainly, young Busch could give them more than enough of that all by himself, lol …
No, seriously …
The last woman to enter the top flight was Giovanna Amati, who attempted to qualify three times for Brabham back in 1992 before being replaced at the ailing British outfit by Damon Hill. (Again, full story jump.)
Danica Patrick, whose major in-car comments this year have had to do with not having enough “speed” in the A-G #7? Might find F1 just her game … provided she picks the right team, anyway, and thus far … Honda still doesn’t have it together, even with Ross Brawn at the helm. Yet, by the time Patricks’ ready to fly? Perhaps he will have achieved many of the goals stated at the beginning of this season … remember where he took Ferrari, with Schumacher, after all.
After November, when these tests are supposed to take place … certainly, it’ll be a more interesting, realistic storyline to follow for both drivers.
